Named after Mahatma Gandhi, Gandhinagar has been the state capital of Gujarat since 1970.Similar to Chandigarh in layout, the city of Gandhinagar is divided into sectors formed by roads laid in a rectangular grid. It is also known as the "Garden City" for all its greenery. The city houses the State Government Secretariat and Assembly, and is about 40 minutes from Ahmedabad.
